In lieu of a big present this year we opted to try new experiences and have one-on-one time with the big girl. Lots of firsts for this three-year-old. We began the weekend with a mommy/daughter manicure and pedicure. I think I was probably more excited than she was to have the chance to share with her something that I really enjoyed...
I wasn't exactly sure how she'd do, but she proved to me that she really was a girlie-girl and enjoyed the pampering. Thanks to Mickey Mouse on TV and a nice big lolipop, she sat still for over an hour! She got to pick the color for BOTH of us (bright pink) and loved the flower design they put on her toes. Such a great experience for us to share.
All that pampering was for a reason, by the way. She was getting all prettied-up for her date later that afternoon with DADDY! They went out to lunch at her FAVORITE restaurant, McDonalds (or, Old McDonalds, as she calls it) and then to see her very first movie at a theater. Again, we weren't sure how she would do, but aside from sitting in Daddy's lap the entire movie, she did great! They saw Disney's take on the Rapunzel fairy tale, Tangled. More than the movie, I'm sure, she enjoyed the special time with Daddy. She was so excited when she came home.
The next day, we celebrated her birthday with all her friends at a venue with large bounce houses. The kids all had an awesome time jumping and playing!
All that bouncing surely worked up an appetite in all those little preschoolers, so everyone was excited for cupcake time! One of Abby's friend's mommy made her some of the sweetest, cutest cupcakes I've ever seen. She was SO excited about her Dora the Explorer cupcakes. Since then, she often asks me to make some for her again. Sorry, sweetie, your mommy's not that talented in the baking department....
The birthday girl was sung to and did a great job blowing out her candle (we had been practicing). Then EVERYONE enjoyed some nice birthday treats!
What a nice party it turned out to be. We are so blessed to have so many friends to share in this celebration with us. Happy Birthday Abby! Whew! Glad we don't have to do this again until next year...
