Summer Vacation 2010! Although I use the word "vacation" loosely. The word vacation implies some degree of relaxation, of which there was none....so perhaps "trip" might be a better word. Either way, we had the opportunity to take the kids up north for a little break from this Texas heat and to see some family. It was a great time.
We began our long trip at DFW airport. It wasn't looking good for us as we started the morning with baby and toddler hysterics at the ticket counter, but luckily things got better from there. We made it through security in one piece (well, actually many pieces..but you get the idea) and the kids loved watching the hustle and bustle around them while we waited at the gate....
....and the big airplanes from the big windows....
Even though Abby had flown more than a dozen times, she was just now becoming old enough to understand what was going on. We had really tried to get her excited about flying on an airplane and had been talking it up for weeks. She couldn't wait to board the plane and had a very hard time waiting to get to her seat at the back of the plane. But she was rewarded for her patience with her very own seat! It was the first time she flew without having to sit on mommy or daddy's lap. She is such a big girl.
Jake was not so lucky, but he didn't care. He was happy just to peek over the seats every now and then.
He was such a good boy and decided to nap in mommy's arms for all but 10 minutes of the flight. That, along with our friend Dora, the Explorer on DVD, helped make it quite an enjoyable flight. Just the beginning of an enjoyable vacation.

Love the pics! Airports and toddlers do not belong in the same sentence. At least not if we want a "vacation". Ha! But so glad you guys made it there and back safely and had fun visiting with family. And ANY place is better than here in Texas with this heat. UGh! Is there an end in sight???
